    Default (re)format old Hard Drive

    Hi all
what is the best way to format a hard drive (that's only going to be used as storage). It currently consists of three FAT 32 partitions, a Linux partition and a Linux swap file.

Depending on your OS, make a boot disk from Doze and boot off it.

    Run fdisk

If you're running Linux on the PC you wanna format it in, then try fdisk, cfdisk, parted or qtparted

    cfdisk is probably nicest.. :-)

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Going from memory right click onto MyComputer and choose Disk Management. Can't remember but I think this tool should be able to delete Linux partitions. Then make new partition and format.

Do not use a boot disk

Just boot XP normally, right click on "My Computer" icon and select "manage"

Select Storage, then Disk Management (local)

The drive should be there and you should be able to delete partitions, format etc.

No need for any other method usually.

You don't need PM for this.

I think I was wrong (slightly) - is it right click on MyComputer and choose manage.

Anyway you should get a screen sho tlike:

if its an old hard drive, does it have an old bios version? get into bios (by pressing delete, f1 or f2 at startup) and select "low level format"
