Default What is a good motherboard for Athlon XP?

I am either going to have a Athlon XP 2100, or a 2800 if I can convince my Dad to upgrade.

Apparently our motherboard is faulty, and that is what is making our computer crash, according to Samcor. But first it was the harddrive, then the graphics card, then InCD, then the printer, and now they says the motherboard.

I want a motherboard that supports an Athlon XP 2800, and DDR 333, even if we dont get the 2800.

Also, I would strongly prefer MSI, because that is what I am used to, and the graphics card is MSI, so I like to keep things matching, but you can persuade me otherwise.

    Keep it around $250 please

And they didnt think heat was an issue?

I hope they didn't talk you into making the replacment purchase off them.

I would suggest the MSI MS-6570DL mainboard. (aka K7N2 Delta-L)

It has the Nvidia NForce2 chipset which has been proven to be the best for AMD XP CPUs.
It also has 8x AGP - DDR400 support - Dual Channel DDR support - 5.1 on board sound - On board LAN - ATA 133 - 6x USB 2.0 ports.

Should be able to get one for under $200!

We told them our temperatures, and they said it was fine, and it wouldnt harm anything.

bet i could fix your puter in 20 minutes with a screwdriver and some thermal paste.

    Pity you don't live nearby.

How did they decide your motherboard is at fault?

Try this board in my opinion it is one of the best and it can support 8 IDE devices in addition to USB, Firewire and SATA. You can check the price on Pricespy which is currently just under the $200.00 mark.

Will there be anything wrong with changing to a different motherboard maker?

metla: I bet you could metla! I am beggining to feel I could fix it faster, and I don't even know how to change a hard drive. Far, it would be great if I could take it to you! Stuff the warranty, its not getting us anywhere, anyway.

All you need is, perhaps, some no. 8 wire.

I'm just sitting here reading posts. You seem to want an MSI board.
For me I use a Soltek board SL-75FRN2. Raid and sound on board. SATA on board. Network card on board. I use that board but use an AGP video card and an Audigy sound card.

If you want to change to a new motherboard maker then do so. If you want MSI then do so.

I have used the same board and inserted an AMD2100+ in another computer and use a 2800+ in my board.
