I Have a DEll desktop system. It is one of the slimline models so requires a slimline CD-rom.

    no.

even if u had two different dell systems with 2yr or so apart u would not be able to use it still. they are made for each era of models.... and no, it cannot be used in the desktop PC. u may be possible to get a dell external enclosure that converts the laptop drive into a external drive and be used with the PC.

its far cheapest to just get a $55 or so CDROM and put it in urself. Is it still under warranties, I think Dell voids warranty if u open the case up and their DELL drives cost a fortune!

really need model number or link to pics. if its uses a half height case it could well be just a standard cd-rom.

i think when you open the box you will find is a normal size CD Rom drive that only has a small slot in the case for the tray to pop out.

I thought of that but there is no space for buttons etc. The buttons would have to be part of the tray in that case. Have a look at the pic in the link I gave and you should be able to see what i mean

me still thinks you will know more if you open the box and have a look....

the drive thats in there might even have a brand name on it so finding one like it is easer.....

other wise i would contact dell and see if they will sell you the drive to put in yourself
