dvd-r will be recognisable by older DVD players, however newer ones should be able to play both.

I would disagree. DVD-R came out prior to DVD+R, and were designed for older DVD players. Newer DVD players can read both DVD-R and DVD+R.

XBox and Playstation 2 can only read DVD-R.

I have found that most stand alone DVD players will read DVD-R but not DVD+R, although most of the newer ones now will read both.

Backwards compatibility is definitely in favour of DVD-R ... IIRC DVD+R isn't that widely supported by newer generation DVD players.

    Lo.
