    Default Digital Photos

    Two Questions
[1] Does anyone know a cheaper processing company for uploading digital images to than either of Frogprints or fotopost. They each charge $1.25 for a 6 x 4 print which is pretty steep . I know I can print them off myself but with cost of ink and good quality paper with no guarantee of result, I'm looking for a cheaper professional alternative if there is one aound.
    2. Once your images have been downloaded onto the PC, the duds deleted and the others cropped, edited etc to your satisfaction, is it possible then to upload the ones you want to print back onto your blank CFC card in your camera through the USB cable, ie reverse the process? I ask this because I'm going to Britain and I know you can post your CFC card to a crowd over there and they will print off your shots for 15p each
    Thanks willbry

My parents were telling me that they were in the Warehouse the other day and that they have a self serve machine for doing your own printing and enlargements, no idea of the price or exactly what it does, maybe if you have a Warehouse near you and they do photo's, maybe they will have the same gizmo.

Have you tried any of the professional labs rather than the local 1 hour photo shops ?, they would have a much better range of services available but whether there would be any cost saving would depend on what you wanted done.

I know that the price drops for volume, and I thought I heard frog went as low as 80c per print which is pretty good.

Some charge differently depending on the work you need done (colour correction etc). If you don't need touch ups, then get someone with variable charges to print. If you do, then go to a flat rate place (but they are often $2.50 each or so).

Self service is coming, Harvey Norman do it now.

Oh, and in answer to number 2, yes. Just be careful about file names. The cameras can go a bit funny if you change the file names from DSC....

But if you are just using the camera as a way to write to the memory card, go for your life.

Actually, I 'd be loath to post of my memory card. A better alternative would be to burn all the pics yopu want onto a CD to take with you to the UK. Most processing places will accept it, if it gets damaged it's hardly any money lost (versus your memory card!), you can burn 2 so you have a back up and you keep your memory card free to use.

If you haven't got a CD burner ask aroud friends and see if anyone has an external model you could borrow.

if u in welly. i have found 1hr photo shops are more $$ than specialised labs. 1hr = $20 per roll processing. labs = $16 which is better paper and quality. www.wps.co.nz can choose 2 paper to use.

this is not spec. related to digital prints but u can see processing at ur convenient store is not always the best and cheapest.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. That's a good suggestion Robo.I think I'll burn the shots I want printed onto a CD. As you say, they are so cheap compared to the CF card if it got lost in the post.
Re your query bonzo.29, the firm is "Directfoto", P.O. Box 5, Eastleigh, Hants, SO53 3JR In the meantime I'm off to the Warehouse Stationery to see what do it yourself gizmo they might have there.
