    Default .mov player for Linux

    Hi
In my "convert to linux in 30 days" period I have found that I miss the ability to play my .mov movie trailers and so forth under Linux.
There's no Quicktime version for Linux (strange considering both Mac and Linux origionate from Unix apparantly)... and so I was hoping someone could point me to the open source side of things?!?
    Thanks

I dont think Ive had to install any extras except for VideoLAN Client (VLC)

Videolan.org would be the website, great media player!

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Chill.

*I think they have the applicable RPM's to download there for VLC to enable MOV playback if it doesnt come by default.. I know it has an XVid Plugin.. I had to download 14 rpms.. totalling about 4 megs I think*

I'm using mplayer which has played everything I've thrown at it including quicktime & WMV. If you are using mandrake & want well packaged RPMs for head over to the Penguin Liberation Front. You can probably get redhat packages from the mplayer homepage.

Xine is also fairly good and was on my mandrake CDs.

Only OSX is unix based, previous versions weren't. And its only based on a BSD kernel. All the stuff on top of it which quicktime uses is Apple only, so it doesn't really help to make porting it to linux easier.

    This may help:
    http://ftp.falsehope.com/home/rathann/mplayer/
    QT6 plugins :-)
