100% Quiet PC, CPU, GPU & PSU

i want a 100% Quiet PC (except the hard disk)
i was wondering if anyone has some links to Heat Sinks that don't need a Fan
i have found a few low powered PSUs around the 300W mark
but i'm realy looking for Heat Sinks now
all the ones i found thew google just don't come with fans

You can go water cooled but if you are a not very good plumber you will stuff up your system

I know where you're coming from, as my Athlon XP box runs as loud as IDG's server room!

You may want to look into the Volcano 9 or the Volcano 11 is supposed to be even quieter.

I have a standard heatsink/fan with mine, but setting up a PC for a friend, I bought him the volcano 9, and because its smart enough to sense when your PC is getting hotter, and needs to power the fan more (Make it spin faster), its very close to silent when you're using it for standard desktop work, provided your processor isnt being pushed too hard... Start some extreme gamin, and it speeds up, but its still barely noticable when the PC has the case on... come to think of it, even without it on its still a LOT quieter than my PC

Read the latest Silcon Chip magazine. They have an article on building a silent PC.

Just don't expect it to be useful for Gaming.

Right you are - PC's can be noisey things.. check the latest PCW coz there's an article in there about it!

I sleep with mine at the base of my bed.. and I get to sleep fine.. but I have a few gigs of MP3's I play half the time.

The CPU fan is probably your biggest concern, GPU and PSU are generally not too loud.. you may be best off buying the round ATA cables to increase airflow so you dont really need a system/Case fan!

Buy a CD-ROM or R/W that lets you slow down the speed (I know there are several out there that let you increase the speed up to 52x instead of 32x with the push of a button, but its noisier.. although you're not gonna be sleeping with the CD-ROM going... if you're playing audio, copy it to ya HDD).

Other than that - We're in a power crises, so make sure you turn on the Power Save features :-)

have a look at this and this. both are excellent and you can fit all sorts of fans setups.

If you want your computer to perform well you'll definitely be looking at getting watercooling. Running the fans at 7v is very quiet. Your main problem left will be to deal with the PSU.

i forgot to add that the case will make or break a quiet pc. cheapo cases tend to vibrate and side air vents can let noise through.
