    Default System problems

I have just received this plea for help. I thought pf1 might have some solutions.

My friend is having trouble with his system.

Last year he upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from Drinking Mates 4.2, which he'd used for years without trouble. However, conflicts between these two systems soon became apparent, the only solution was to try and run
Girlfriend with the sound turned off (a setting nigh on impossible to
achieve). But to make matters worse Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with
several other applications, such as; Lads Night Out 3.1, Golf 2, Playboy 6.0 and peace and quiet 2.5.

Successive versions of Girlfriend proved no better; Girlfriend 3.0 has many
bugs and left a virus in his system forcing him to shut down completely for
several weeks. Eventually he tried installing Girlfriend 2.1 as well as
Girlfriend 1.0 only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to his hardware.

Sensing a way out, he upgraded to Fiancée 1.0 only to discover to his dismay that this system requires rapid upgrade to Wife 1.0. However, whilst Wife 1.0 uses up all available resources it does come bundled with FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse 2000.

But imagine my friend's disappointment on discovering Wife 1.0 can be
unstable and costly to maintain. Any mistakes he makes are automatically
stored in Wife 1.0 datafiles and cannot be deleted - they then re-surface
months later. Wife 1.0 also has an automatic InterDiary Explorer and e-mail porn filter. Wife 1.0 also automatically runs PhotoStrop and Wingezip and no option on the help menu seems to work, leaving him to try and GUESS the fault himself.

The system footprint needs updating regularly requiring Shoeshop Browser Pro for new attachments. Hairstyle Express needs to be reinstalled every week. It also refused some of the new games and attachments he wanted to try, stating they are an illegal operation.

When Wife 1.0 attaches itself to Lotus Car 1.0 it often crashes or runs the
system dry. Wife 1.0 also has a rather annoying pop-up called Mother-in-Law, which can't be turned off.

Recently he's been tempted to try Mistress 2001 add-on, but there could be problems. If Wife 1.0 detects the presence of Mistress 2001, it will delete all MS Money files before uninstalling itself.

    Is this a common problem???

I wondered about trying Systemworks or migrating to Penguin Island. Any other suggestions?

    Well Robin,

Your friend would be well advised to stay clear of Version 1.0 of any program. Inevitably there will be coding errors and situations that the software writers may have lacked the experience to anticipate. For example, if these programs were written by the same team as Drinking Mates 4.2 then I can fully understand how they could have failed to anticipate your friend's present problems. Their experience of the girlfriend/fiancee/wife/mother-in-law thread of operational arguments would have been tenuous to say the least.

I would wait until the release of Girlfriend 5.3 (SP2) before attempting installation of this series of programs again, and in the meantime I suggest a full reformat of his system with significantly increased resources, followed by reinstallation of a clean copy of Drinking Mates 4.2.

Once he is happy with the stability of his operating system and program environment, he should monitor resource levels for an extended period until he is quite sure that he never uses more than 10% of available hardware and software resources. Once sure that his resources are adequate, he should then run an up-to-date AV program to ensure he is virus free, disable any anti pop-up software then install one (legit) copy only of Girlfriend 5.x and run this exclusively until he is sure his entire system and operating environment is stable, and that there are no significant clashes with Drinking Mates 4.2.

Note: Slightly slow response to certain commands is quite normal when these two programs run at the same time, but he should find that Drinking Mates 4.2 always takes precedence for resources and that in the event of conflict, Girlfriend 5.x shuts down automatically without corruption and will restart and function normally on demand.

By the time his system reaches this level of stability, an economic upgrade path to Platonic Relationship 11.7 should be available and I am reliably informed that this program is fully compatible with Lad's Night Out 3.1, Golf 2, Playboy 6.0 and Peace and Quiet 2.5. He can then look forward to a much more enjoyable experience. PR 11.7 comes with a hassle-free uninstaller for Girlfriend 5.3 and all SPs, but does offer the opportunity to convert Girlfriend 5.3 to Platonic Relationship 11.7 on the fly, with the option to select specific attributes he wishes to carry over.

He should not be put off by the "Platonic" title of this program as I can assure him it is fully functional in all important respects, having been developed by the same team that wrote Behind the Bikeshed 1.0, Teenage Crush 1.1, Ex-Lover 3.2, Casual Relationship 6.1, Live in Lover 7.6, One Night Stand 2.0, Older Woman 3.3, Sugar Mama 4.5 and Enormous Inheritance 4.8.

They used their remarkable skills to combine the best of all of these programs, then added Own BMW 7.65, Penthouse Apartment 11.0, Air Hostess 2.3, Boss's Daughter 2.2 and critical functional elements of Experience 10.1 to the mix. The title was chosen to avoid unnecessary conflict between this program and Ex-Wife 1.0, Divorce lawyer 3.9, Private Investigator 45.01, Envious Buddy 3.5, Ex-Girlfriend 2.6 and Jilted Lover 12.0.

Finally, I do not recommend that he experiment further with Fiancée 1.0 or indeed any future version as this program is hard-coded for a "without the option" upgrade path to Wife 1.0. He has been very fortunate in my opinion to have discovered the shortcomings of this software before automatic downloading of Children 1.0 was initiated as this can quickly lead to a compulsory upgrade path through to Children 4.0 or even higher and a significant loss of user privileges. Private School Fees 4.6 will almost certainly self-install regardless of any notified limitation on available resources or the absence of an upgrade path to add more.

Your friend should not be concerned at any rumours that opting for PR 11.7 will prevent access to valuable bundled programs from Wife 1.0 such as FreeSexPlus and Cleanhouse 2000 because these are automatically available with Platonic Relationship 11.7. If he gets SP2 or higher, he will also have access to modules Gourmet Chef 3.0 and Decorating Taste 1.7 if he wishes to sample them. Occasional Supermarket 2.15 is also available and is a recommended option because it also installs Intelligent Conversation 3.8 with the auto-mute function fully enabled.

Because Platonic Relationship 11.7 is a much more mature program than Wife 1.0, InterDiary Explorer and E-mail Porn Filter downloads are automatically blocked along with PhotoStrop, Wingezip, Shoeshop Browser Pro, Hairstyle Express, Nag 1.4 and Commitment 7.9. Another advantage of Platonic Relationship 11.7 is that it has an optional plug in from Street Girl 28.0 that allows selection and trial of the new games and attachments he was interested in. This is a time-limited option and use of his credit card may be required for continued access.

He will find that it may be necessary to installl Personal Hygiene 3.4 and Bodily Noise Blocker 2.0 for absolutely trouble free operation, but as a plus (and as you would expect) Mother-in-Law Pop-ups cannot be downloaded at all and pirated copies cannot be installed, not even by manual means.

If you (sorry, I mean your friend) has any queries he can contact this Forum for more advice.

I should mention of course that despite its many fine attributes, the number of features written in to Platonic Relationship 11.7 does mean that some minimum hardware specifications must be met and a multiple-cycle performance-test run to successful conclusions before the full installation can be completed and all options become available.

    Cheers

    [pre] Disclaimer:
This advice is offered with all care but no responsibility. It is an
original work by Billy T, but should not be taken to suggest that it refers
in any way to Mrs T, who was installed long before such sophisticated
software became available, runs exceptionally stably on the limited
hardware available and anyway, I wouldn't swap her for
any of the above programs :x :8}[/pre]

Magnificent, Billy! I shall certainly pass on your response to my friend.

Do you, by any chance, write for Mills and Boon on the side?

Nope, I just get the bit between my teeth sometimes and let rip. Your post, and the variations on the same theme that pop up every now and then have just begged for a suitable response.

Now you have it, glad you liked it.

    Cheers
