Finding help on the Sony website is a real pain...

But I uncovered this article about what OSes you can use one of their USB Memory Stick Adapter model MSAC-U1. I don't know if it's a mouse, but the MSAC-U7 is, and the UC1 was the only one with FAQs. Did you install the driver for the mouse? If not, go to the link above or Sony's website and look for the latest drivers.

Hi. I have exactly the same problem. I have a USB MS Intellimouse 3.0 and use Win Xp Pro. For no apparent reason the mouse has started freezing then works again some time later. Starting and stopping are accompanied by a "chime" sound. This is noit a PC speaker beep. The mouse is plugged in fine and problem occurs on either of my USB ports. I have updated the driver, removed driver completely and reinstalled. I have turned off power saving option on all USB root hubs.

Did you eventually sort out what was causing your problem?

This forum receives a regular procession of users with USB mouse problems. Changing to a PS/2 mouse appears to be the easiest way to fix it.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion re BIOS but yes, I upgraded to the latest bios (F11) for my GA-7VAXP motherboard a month or two ago. Sounds like I might have to revert to a serial mouse but seems odd when it worked perfectly from December to yesterday.

The sound effect you describe is the default Windows Connect and Disconnect for USB devices.
Your assumption of the memory stick mouse may therefore have some meaning.
It sounds as though the USB is disconnecting and reconnecting, but this could be happening at an internal cable level, hence affecting the keyboard as well?
