    Default hidden bios

How do I get into my bios on my laptop? (Compaq armada 1750)win98.
it's not like my desktop that gives me a chance to get in.
when I start it up it first shows the Compaq banner then the windows banner.

Press f12 when you see the red Compaq screen and a little white square in the top right corner

After the Compaq Logo apears you will see a cursor in the right upper corner.
Now press F10 and you are able to access the Bios options.

One option bound to be right.....

    Split the difference at F11?

Had one a few years back, it was F10 I reckon, but was it a 1750?

    :^O

Can't remember exactly, but it won't hurt to try a whole bunch of keys - my old Presario was DEL, so you might have to try some...

    Diid the above solutions work?
Where did you get your laptop from?

I am unable to access the bios setup in my armada 1598DT

It seems that when the Hard drive was wiped (b4 I bought it) the compaq bios access software was also wiped

I think you may need to get the Bios access software and reinstall windows again

I have tried to find the needed file at HP (compaq) saw irt once did not download it no I can't seem to find the needed file ;-(

    cheers

From what I have seen with Compaq's the BIOS is actually a small partition (about 2MB I think) on the HDD.

So if you ever wipe the HDD (or get a replacement) and start from scratch you actually need to install the Compaq BIOS first so that it gets its partition. This is usually available from Compaq/HP's support website.

Check out this website and get the System ROMPaq.

That's the one, Chris. You get an executable file which makes a set of floppies, which willl want to install the maintenance partition. (Usually three floppies). If the disk has been partitioned without room for that, I think you can use the BIOS setup from the floppies without actually installing the Compaq partition.

I think F10 is the most common key ...

    Hummmph

My information says that when you power on and see a cursor appear in the upper right hannd corner of the screen press the F10 key
and the bios is then accessable.

However I do not get a cursor in the top right hand screen and F10 just causes a beep.

    should I reinstall the bios?

my puter go's Ok just wondering about the bios
