    Default re scanner

Is it necessary to buy an additional OCR program. I just use what is built into the HP installation. It seems to scan OK. I have the latest win xp drivers.

It depends what you want it for!

My suggestion would be to scan in your 1870's newspaper articles as images and save them as .jpgs as in the last post.

Next find a clean copy of something - a letter you've written in Word and printed for example - scan it in and use the OCR program you have to convert it back to a Word document.

Once you're comfortable with the process try scanning more difficult items.

Learn the program you have, find it's strengths and limitations, then see if you need to buy a new program.
