Default Registry Permission Issues In Win XP

In Windows 2000 I could install a program that must have Admin rights to run by giving a user temporary admin rights on the server to install the program, that way the user had admin rights in the registry for that piece of software.

That way when the user logs on with normal domain user rights they could run that program fine with no permissions problems.

In Windows XP this no longer works as the registry updates to domain user rights causing the program not to run.

I don't want to give the user poweruser or admin rights to the local computer, nor do I wish the user to use 'Run As'.

Has any one got a solution for this?

Applying the compatible workstation (compatws.inf) security template may loosen the registry permissions enough to make the application work. Otherwise you could always figure out the specific entries and open them up manually.

Good Idea, I'll play with the security templates.

I tried to guess the specific registry entries, far to many work out which ones are a problem.
