Online Purchase from UK

I'm looking at buying a radio online from the UK.
It will be in access of the $1000 limit, so will likely have to pay duty.
Any tips or advice from anyone who has done this ?
Things that may not be obvious in the initial purchase ?

I can buy the same item from Australia but my pricing so far indicates this to be the dearer option.

Jaysus....I couldn't imagine spend a grand on something I couldn't see and touch pre-purchase, and then take with me.

I'll spend fifty bucks on rabbit treats online, and even then Animates manages to completely cock it up.

I occasionally buy small items from the UK that I can't get here, but never going to spend that amount.

I send small items to my sister who opens them and puts them in an envelope to send on, often quicker than ordering from Auckland.

Have bought stuff from Amazon UK and never had a problem. Never at that price though.

Some people spend lots of money on motorcars.
I can't drive anymore, so are spending a small amount on something I can drive.
Amazon would be my preferred choice also but currently out of stock.
Two recent purchases from Amazon US have been quick & easy, but they don't stock this model. (volume knob is on the wrong side)
It just the duty/customs side that is the grey area.

Didn't we just have a post where it was decided that anything worth under $1000 drew no tax or gst payment on arrival?

Find out from the UK supplier if the make the sale sales tax free or not. If they don't you'll be paying double GST . The UK one and NZ one.

If over NZ$1000 , incl freight

you may need to use an import broker to process this for you.
It will no longer be as simple as paying duty .

Excess.

So if you're happy to pay that, whats the problem? You want it, they have it, just do it. Customs will notify you of what you need to pay.
Or give them a ring and ask, they are helpful. I had great service when I used to import books for my shop.
