CD-R Queries

Sorry, I have some queries re burning to - CD-R (not a CD-RW)

1. When can you give the CD-R a name? Is it only before the burn takes place & if the CD-R is blank?

2. Will only a finalised CD-R play on a CD player (if it is an audio CD-R)

3. Can you hide / delete / add files on a finalised CD-R?

4. Is there any way of knowing whether a data or audio CD-R been created?

5. How do you see everything that has been saved on a CD-R including any hidden files?

its just not that simple.
Too many factors with differing Media types, player/recorder capability & recording type/format

To answer all your questions.
Dont use CDR .

1) It depends.
Depends on how its being recorded .

2)
audio CDR's wont play on SOME audio CD Players . Usually the EU Philips based CD Audio Players that could have issues .
I had that with (some) Marantz, Philips, Blaupunkt players .
Usually not an issue though

there is also "AUDIO CDR Disks" . Its a completely different thing .
These are for a few Hifi CD Recorders . In the EU, there was a fuss about piracy & copying Audio CD's on HIFI equipment
So it was decided that Hifi Audio CD Recorders could ONLY use special "Audio CDR" . These AUDIO CDR were alot more expensive , and quite hard to get (the extra cost supposed to into a fund to pay royalties to musicians)
Also , the HIFI CD Recorders could not use a digital input for the recording . That was intended to stop the recorded CD being a perfect copy .
Just some useless history.

or Win95
or Seagate Bigfoots

Yes, all those are usuable , doesnt make them a good choice .
Its 2022 after all.

If he was specifically wanting to burn audio CD's , then thats a different story .

Funny, I still use CD-Rs a lot, actually. Both for data and audio.

And I play with Windows 95 occasionally, and I've got a 386 with a Bigfoot in it...
