No network or wi-fi adaptor found

HP Pavilion g6 Win 10

Windows can not find the ethernet port or the wi-fi adaptor.
Settings - Network & Internet under Status just shows ______ ......... ________ and nothing else

Left menu has:
Status
Dial Up
VPN
Airplane mode
Proxy

No Ethernet or Wireless options

Device Manager shows no issues
No liquid damage under the keyboard that I could see
Run under CMD admin
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset

some suggestions

Make sure the Airplane mode is OFF
make sure wifi is on. There is usually a switch or Fn key that can can turn wifi off

In device manager, are both the wifi adapter & neywork adapter showing : is so, turn off power save for both .

Its unsual that both would stop working , unless Win10 is badly corrupted

Uninstall any 3rd party firewall or av software . Uninstall any VPN's .
those shouldnt matter but its a start in the diag process

If you have any driver updater software , uninstall that

Being HP, it will be a nightmare to download new drivers .
You'll go to the HP site for your laptop & be given a multi choice of 3-5 differnent brand device drivers for wifi & NIC

Use control panel rather than 'settings"

ctl panel , network and sharing, change adapter settings ===> see whats in there

Sometimes if its badly corrupted the command netsh winsock reset doesn't actually work. If you do a network Reset that will actually remove the adapters and build back a whole new connection(s).

To get to it, Start- Settings- Network and Internet, then on the right hand window click Network Reset. ( follow prompts)

network reset or resetting network settings restores all the network-related features and settings to their original values — factory state. These include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN, Network adapters, and Ethernet.

Update
Airplane mode is off (greyed out) with no other taskbar tiles next to it

FN F12 key is lit green but won't change to red unless the unit is shutting down no wifi switch that I could find

Both adaptors are showing up in Device Manager and have turned off power save for both

Have uninstalled Nortons 360 and a driver update software no VPN's

Under the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections Change adaptor setting there is nothing there "This folder is empty"

Have done the Network Reset as per Wainuitech on bootup windows did a scan disk which I let it complete with no change

If it was a hardware issue it would show up in Device Manager?
So maybe a Win 10 issue as per 1101

Next thing I would do, From a CMD (as admin) run sfc /scannow , rebooting after wards. If not fixed then dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

If not fixed, repair install.

Make a note of what type of NIC & wifi in device manager (eg Intelxxx, broadcom , whatever)

in device manager , right click, uninstall/remove
then reboot & it should re-install that device (or device manager, action, scan for hardware changes)


you may get to the stage where its easier & quicker to do a 'repair' windows (or reload) . That may save alot of your time & frustration
sometimes thats the only good option

Thanks 1101 & yes have tried that, as you say time to reinstall win 10 won't let me do it from its recovery partition so will boot from usb

You dont have to do a full reinstall from fresh. A repair install --- plug in the USB while its running normally, open the drive click on Setup, it will go through and ask a few questions ( like keeping all data etc) just follow though the options, it reinstall s windows while keeping all data and installed programs. Before doing even a repair or full reinstall, If it came to that I'd boot from a live Linux CD/DVD and see if that picks up the Internet, if that doesn't then theres a hardware problem, if it does its software.

You cant do a repair install from booting from the USB.
