Ive had an email take 2 days, and the similar email sent 5 minutes later arrived almost instantly
that was to my @xtra.co.nz , a crappy email service .

I understand how internet traffic goes in packets and the pieces may all go via different routes. My question was based on the fact that the same thing had happened on at least two different occasions and all from the same person. My sister is on Gmail.
We are all but temporary files on the great flash drive of life.
Theres many reasons why mails go slow. One time they may have gone one route the next a different, and one route may have some sort of Filter or something else thats causing problems.
Its one of those things you will never really know as filters cause all sorts of weird behaviour.
Classic example : was in a conversation with the Spark Area manager here once, we had exchanged at least 8 emails over a day, then all of a sudden Sparks filters decided that both our emails contained spamand put them in the junk folders. He looked into it and advised there was nothing in any of our mails that should trigger the spam. ( even his own and he's a Spark manager as I mentioned) - So go figure.
Then another time gmail went crazy and every mail from various people was marked as spam, a day or so later all came right again.
Looking at the headers with my limited knowledge it did look like the two messages went by different routes.
None of it is a big deal.

Email received is not an instant service, first one may be considered spam by the Email servers, so late received.
It was probably held for questioning by the NSA
Remember, standard e-mail is unencrypted and is like sending a postcard in the mail. Anyone in the postal service, or with access to the service, can read it!
And NZ based email providers are required by law to keep a copy of all your emails, in case the NZ spys want a look at them.
Thats OK, as long as they dont hijack my emails from the Nigerian Prince with his scheme to make me an easy $1M .
