Copy of an image file of a disk

Using Macrium Reflect I made an image of my wife's laptop - C (only) drive, to an external hard
drive.

Next wanted, for extra safety, to make a further image of the laptop drive to a spare drive on my
desktop. Somewhere we have a cable with a USB connection at both ends to use for this, but I could not find it.
I then decided to copy the image backup from the external drive to the spare drive on my desktop instead.
So I did that.

My question is - is the process that I have followed obtained a good outcome? Ie, the destination
on the hard drive on the desktop is different. Can't see that is a problem - am I correct?

That should be fine as long as the file didn't get corrupted whilst copying... but you would most likely have received some kind of error had that happened.

I'm not familiar with Macrium Reflect but another "Test" you could run (if available in Macrium) is browse or mount the copies to make sure that they are accessible and readable... that's about as robust a sanity check you will be able to run.

That will defiantly allow you to open the image file. Copying from one location to another shouldn't cause any problems, do it all the time.

The only thing when double clicking the Image to examine, only select C drive ( ignore the other partitions) and make sure you tick the two boxes as shown in the picture below: Other wise it may pop up saying you dont have permission to view etc.



If you have installed viBoot when installing Macrium, and you have Hyper-V active ( available in Pro, but can also be installed in Home if required ) You can then load the image and run it like a Virtual Machine, full operating system.

The latest version of Macrium states

Instantly boot backups in Hyper-V / Oracle VirtualBox VM

Never tried Virtual box but assume it does work.

Just what I do...in fact I have more than 2 copies
