No - they have self power if the ELECTRICS fail - not if the engines stop working
If that happens they are in deep crap - rats system or not!
the RAT provides emergency electric power and hydraulic power. the engines are the primary supplier of electric and hydraulic power.
a good example is the Pakistan A320 crash where the RAT deployed after engines failed (due to idiot pilots hot dogging it and trying to land without the wheels down).
Tweak it till it breaks
That system worked well both for and against the Covid debate.yes serious, links provided to what's already in development relating to self charging batteries and still the Closed minds wont read.
Glad there's so many EXPERT Aircraft Engineers and Battery EXPERTS here LOL.
Funny how the EXPERTS only read snippets of what's posted and pick and choose how to read it. Certain mentions are ONLY REFERANCES / Examples -- Read whats written not what you THINK is written.
All the Experts are here, and we all know what Expert is short for in slangWhy would this subject be different?
RATS don't give you everything, it's an emergency thing, A typical RAT will be around 80 centimeters wide, and can generate between 5 and 70 kW of power when called upon in an emergency.
It gives a bit of power to critical components, not the entire plane.
As for self charging batteries:

The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
I am about to get a refill from my perpetual brewing coffee perc. That's all I need these days, in large doses!

The Wording "Self Charging" is the term that is used worldwide by all the manufactures for various ways a battery is recharged as long as it doesn't plug directly to a power Source (Power point / electricity) just goes to show that many people don't know all terms and how they are used in relation to certain activities.
At some point someone will design a way to charge without the need for a power point, with no IC engine, may not happen this year or next or 10, but it will.
Bit like (completely off topic) USB Flash drives -- How much will they eventually be able to hold. ??
I have here right now a 1TB USB flash drive, thats larger than most people have as a main HDD - back then 1TB would have been laughed at and possibly comments of " No Way". Its no bigger in physical size than the many 32GB Drives, in fact it may be slightly smaller. Got a 2TB on the way - Its called Development. The first USB flash drive came on the market in 2000 with a storage capacity of 8 megabytes![]()

is BS marketing at best, misinformation at worse.
its called a fuel cell. it charges the onboard battery. of course you need to feed it hydrogen. At some point someone will design a way to charge without the need for a power point, with no IC engine, may not happen this year or next or 10, but it will.

Back in the day, the Sun revolved around Earth and Earth was flat! Look what has been discovered and evolved in the last 100 years. Who knows what will happen in the next 100 years. Regrettably I wont be here to see it, how very unfortunate!
AND thats the whole point really. Just because something doesn't exist today doesn't mean it wont in the future, BUT theres to many closed minds to see it. Thankfully Bryan you are NOT one of them![]()
