A few days ago, I cloned my HDD to a new SSD using Macrium.
Swapped the drives and booted from the SSD. All is working
perfectly and I will keep the original drive as a backup.
Also keep a Macrium full image externally which I update weekly.

Many thanks for all the comments folks, you have certainly made my mind up - I will definitely make images not clones! (no disrespect blanco).

Yes, I also save full images. The reason for cloning to SSD was
to speed up boot, response times etc. The improvement has been
worth a few dollars and my time.
