    Default Home network query

I can share folders ok between two pcs but can't seem to share any drives.
I use an internal separate drive as a backup E: , but can't get access to it from laptop using ( I think) same options as the successfully linked folders. e.g D\downloads

    Is this normal ?

Double check share permissions on the drive.... easy way to see if it is "visible" is go into File Explorer and then enter "\\computer_ip_address" (no quotes) and this should show you the list of shares on the computer. If it's not there it's not shared... if it is and you can't access it, then check the permissions. Also are you sharing the "root" of the drive as in "E:" versus "E:\Folder"

    Is 1 PC Win7, Win8 or XP & the other Win10 ?
Have you tried disabling password protected sharing ?
Are both showing as on "Private" Networks

Are you just trying to browse the network, via "network" in file explorer ? that doesnt work properly anymore

    This may be the answer

Sharing a Complete drive Often fails, many of the listed fixes don't work, ( its all to do with Security Basically) sometimes you are lucky and they will and stick other times nothing wants to play nice,

Got One customer who wanted the same in the end to solve the problem and remain stable was to make one Folder on the drive, and use that as the Whole drive (so to speak) and that shared fine. You can name the folder a single letter or even map a network Location to that folder.

There are several other options BUT it depends on if you have Home or Pro Versions. Home is rather limited unless you add the option in.

rather than sharing have you tried mapping the drive. Havent tried to do this on 11 But I know it was possible on earlier versions

you can only map a shared drive or folder .
So the sharing has to be working before it can be mapped .
