I can't understand how people who are not vaccinated don't see themselves as islands of vulnerability and a risk to all of those who are vaccinated.

This is life and death real life not some silly conspiracy theory, if the virus manages to mutate into something more virulent we could be in real trouble with these vulnerable people amongst us.

It must be really difficult for you living in such a world of terror. What would you do for entertainment if there was no virus and no climate change for you to be concerned about?

There's no dodging climate change but you might get lucky with the virus and miss getting really sick without getting the vaccine, however sooner or later successive waves of variants are going to get you in the long run. The buffer of having a lot of vaccinated people around you will only protect for so long if the virus does not peter out which is not likely since its heritage is a couple of thousand years of battling with the best immune system on Earth, that of the bats, they have both tested each other and refined and "improved" to a fine art where each has been countering the other.

Now this formidable foe has emerged to infect us, probably quite a big misfortune for the human race as a whole and perhaps history altering.

The pygmy world-view that mankind has some sort of specific destiny is a mistaken one and not seeing that there is nothing special about our species is not a modern way of viewing where destiny is leading us.

Timely and wide-spread vaccination is very important to stop variants.

Don't know about that. I turned 79 a couple of months ago. Still got lots of things to do as I am mentally pretty good still. Getting pretty knackered due to quite a bit of fracture trauma since my 36th year though with quite a loss of mobility and pain. At this age though, dying doesn't scare me. Sometimes I feel I would welcome it. Big difference to being young I feel. In other words, a few more photos to take, sunrises and sunsets to view, good coffee to drink and the love of my good wife. Not scared at all.

Remember this is not the vaccine commonly used in NZ, we use Pfizer which has slightly different problems.

I have 10 years to catch up to my walking buddy of nearly 25 years! He turns 89 this month and the old bugger still out walks me. He is a good example of enjoying old age.

Mind you, he admits he has never taken any physical risks in his life. How I would be had I done the same, don't know. I have enjoyed my life so far!
