Interesting. Everything I've looked at says the red warning light is as a result of a process that was ignored.

There's was no prior 'yellow' warning light, and the DPF light didn't come on prior to warn of the need to give it a good run.

Will wait for Mazda guy to call back.

Yep, to remind you to have the "Mazda Dealer" massage your hip pocket.

    Oil is cheap, engines aren't!
oil has come a long way over the years and todays diesels burn diesel better. long service intervals in not uncommon these days.

According to Mazda, because the red light is solid and not flashing, I can drive it for short trips but not out of the suburb, until they can look at it next Wednesday and do a DPF regen.

Have advised the car dealer and curious to see what they offer - I don't ruin a DPF in 7 days so it was obviously close to full when they sold it to me.

Dealer probably knew about it and cleared the code in the computer so you wouldn't see it when you bought it.

UPDATE: Dealer called in response to my email. In an hour I had a loan car dropped off and my Mazda taken away by truck to have the DPF issues resolved at their expense.

I'm as impressed as I am surprised. Dealer's done the right thing. Maybe they knew, maybe they didn't. We'll never know.

Wow, that is impressive, assuming their fix isn't just to take the DPF warning bulb out of the dashboard lol

A friend of mine bought a Mazda last year from a dodgy dealer and when taking it back for some minor fixes, almost got into a fistfight.

...also been given details of a place that'll take the DPF out altogether. That's the next job.

Friend of ours ended u in court with Mazda dealer down this way, they hadn't done something which they said they had, it wrecked the engine and needed a full replacement one. But because she was 100km over the recommended oil change she lost her case.
