    A very interesting article indeed.

I have always maintained that Aotearoa is a made up name. I was aware that the maoris did not have a name for the entire country, but a name for each island.

And I do object to the gobbledegook that is being used by TVNZ news, in particular. It means absolutely nothing to the vast majority.

It might be an official languague but that does not make it any more understandable or desirable.

There was a time when maori children were chastised for speaking maori at school. It was not the English teachers but the maori elders who told them to speak English as they realised that if the young maoris were going to get anywhere in an English speaking world, they are going to have to learn to speak in English. They understood that it made sense.

I have no objection to the moaris, or anyone else, speaking their own tongue, but I do object to it being thrust down out collective throats. We have many other languages spoken in NZ, mandarin and cantonese in particular, and the Chinese people teach it to their children who become fluent in their native tongue. They even have their own TV channel paid for an run by the Chinese. But the maoris have their TV channel paid for by the government. It just shows that the moaris just don't care enough about their own languague.

If you must learn another languague, it makes much more sense to learn something useful such as a European languague, French or German for example, that is spoken by many more people in the world. You'll never use maori anywhere else.

So I thought that it is a very interesting article and, although biased, should be circulated much more. I think that it is very true.

Who cares? English gains new words and look at it's history........a mish mash.
This piece of land had maori here before the english invasion and still has maori here.

I don't mind the name at all. Tourists come here partly to see maori stuff in the likes of Rotorua you know. Other than activities and scenery both of which are available in plenty of other lands, some of it nicer, and cheaper.

If you hate the maori so much, move.

I never said that I hate maori. Where did you get that idea from? I don't hate anyone.

But, as I said, what I am against is the media - TVNZ in particular - shoving the maori languague down our throats, something that the vast majority of the population does not understand.

And also what I said was that Aotearoa was not the maori name for NZ. It is a name made up by the Europeans and promoted as the maori name, although I have no idea why.

But did you read the article? It sounds as though you did not. You only read my post and decided to criticise - not constructive criticism either.

because its the sort of rhetoric that bigots/racist spit out .
Im not saying you are that.
This goes for both sides of the argument . Minorities are just as bigoted/racist as everyone else, possibly more so .

Forcing another language on an Adult population, that will never work.

Teaching Maori in Primary schools , I dont see any issue with that . The young age is when they accept it and be willing to learn, in the teens its too late .
In the teens & adult ages, you have to want to learn it, it cant be forced on us .

And so does English grammar gain new interpretations ...

Jeeeez, I am utterly sick of people calling anyone who has an issue with a Maori “Racist”!

I grew up with them, I went to school with them, I worked with them, and attended their Weddings and Funerals. By and large they are “bloody good people”.

These Weirdos in Government who think they will get votes for treating Maori as inferior, and needing special privileges, are going to come a cropper because the Maori I associate with don’t see themselves as inferior in any way, and if you do, you tell them.

The problem at Government level is activists with a drop of Maori blood and ulterior motives.

    So what’s the answer?

Easy, if you have a New Zealand Passport or are entitled to a New Zealand passport, then you are a Kiwi.

Colour, Class or Creed are of no interest.

    Now let’s cut the crap.
