Default Why do they remember and celebrate the anniversary of their death?

I listen to the Magic radio station and every so often they tell us that on a particular day, a popular singer "passed away." (Never understand why they don't say they "died." )

I would have thought that it would be more appropriate to remember the day that they were born - a much happier occasion. So why do they remember the day they died? It just does not make any sense.

It is better to wear out than to rust out.
