The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

Quite right! We are Kiwis. We have our own sayings. There is enough imported from Yankee Land as it is and we are slowly losing our Kiwi vernacular.

Ban the Americanisms. Promote the Kiwi way. For example, say con trov ersy, not contra versy. Unfortunately the latter Americanism is catching on. Even the newsreaders, where we usually hear the best Kiwi Speak, are pronouncing it that way.

Besides, I remember taking my daughters to Disneyland some years back. We were talking amongst ourselves and then when we finished our conversation, a couple of Yankee girls noticed our silence and one of them said, "Don't stop talking - we LOVE your accent."

And yet there are many who like to mimic the Yanks - in particular the local singers. Why do they have to sing with a Yank accent? Ray Columbus would be one of the worst. In his song, "'Til We Kissed" he sings, over and over, "Where you bin, where you bin." I'm certain it's not so that it will go down well in Yankee Land. They don't play Kiwi music over there. They don't even know what a Kiwi is.

So let's keep our Kiwi way. After all it is - we are - unique.

Thank you, Ken. Very original and very droll.

But we are unique and not like everyone else. We are Kiwis and there is not another country the same as New Zealand, so I dispute what you have said (even though you were trying to be funny) we are not like everyone else. We are Kiwis!

What's wrong with bin Roscoe? After all, the top lady in the land uses it all the time. Maybe as a kid she listened to Ray!

Yes, I have noticed that. She obviously listens to too much Yank speak.
And you think she may have listened to Ray as a kid? I'm not certain she ever was a kid.
