Speaking of hardware. I read yesterday that unless your PC supports UEFI, and Secure Boot you won't get Win 11.

    and TPM 2.0

Its all assumptions . That all may change for retail versions or upgrade versions .
Cant tell from a leaked test build .

No one knows as there is no Win11, and will be no new OS after Win10 :-)

I wasn't talking about that sort of hardware Paul.

Didn't watch the MS event, not staying up till 3qm LOl

BUT some of the important parts .

its Expected to be released to teh public sometime in November, and to testers ( like insiders) next week.

The Biggie --ITS FREE FOR W10 users.

    Couple of many articles https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/24/mi...-the-holidays/

    https://www.tomsguide.com/news/windows-11

Already got used to the new "Windows 11 Snap Layouts" and been caught a couple of times when using W10 -- of bugger --not here yet LOL

the requirements say it needs a "need a TPM 2.0 chip" older machines wont have this, but theres a current work around for that at the moment, just Means you have to change 1 File in the ISO.

any hack for TPM2 , might be reversed with a Windows update . So a workaround for TPM2 may lead to caos when/if it stops working

    what I dont like,
TPM2 . Many generic PC's wont have this . Laptops and name brand PC's (eg HP etc) should be OK .
It just means many PC's wont be getting the upgrade .

Minimum res 720p. No good reason for that .
Some PC's are setup to use old low res monitors .

Home REQUIRES a MS a/c to setup/install & REQUIRES an internet connection to setup/install . So option of local a/c may be gone ? No option for those without internet ?
MS forcing us to login to Borg Collective

Will PC's that are 10 upgraded FROM 7 be eligible for the free u/g ?. What if those 7to10 PC's had the 10 install AFTER that free 10 ug period ended (ie most of them)?
Looks like no option for 7 to 11 upgrade .

Win11 could be the prod needed for companies to finally get rid of their Win7 PC's .
Your Win7 PC's are 4 generation old . Time to do something about them . Theres still alot out of Win7's in small/med companies , some being used for RDC .

All of those questions are Valid Questions BUT until the actual final Public release comes out its all guess work.

The ONLY release of W11 so far is a "leaked" Development version.

The insiders should get it next week for testing so we'll see what comes of that.

I download the W11 compatibility test program. My PC failed no doubt because it doesn't have UEFI, Secure Boot capable Doesn't worry me as by the time in 2025 when support for Win 10 expires it will be time for a new PC even though this 9 year old one I have is like a new PC now with an SSD. I suspect that there will be a lot of good PCs out there that won't be able to be upgraded. Planned obsolescence.

I think what is tripping up most machines is the requirement for a TPM- interesting decision by Microsoft but nevertheless a lot of computers that can support TPMs still don't have them.

Still, it's worth checking in the BIOS to see if it's disabled or anything

What a bollocks of a product announcement

    What we wanted :
bullet points , clear hardware requirements , OBVIOUS questions answered

    what we got :
A product announcement that no one really wanted to sit through.
Alot of FUD , confusion , some real anger (CPU list)
Plenty of misinformation running rampant .

Hard Floor, soft floor. Make it confusing please . Why not recommended, minimum . Why bring my floor into this .
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ty/windows-11/

Perhaps add a REQUIRED hardware spec most cant decipher
    Smode: Smode is false, or Smode is true and C_ossku in (0x65, 0x64, 0x63, 0x6D, 0x6F, 0x73, 0x74, 0x71)

CPU requirements seemingly out of touch with reality.
My Ryzen5 1600 doesnt meet spec, but an Intel atom does
A bit of frustration out there with expensive CPU's being out of spec.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...amd-processors
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...tel-processors

edit : that CPU list may be for OEM PC manufacturers ? its a Hardware Developers list
Its still being quoted by MANY websites . More FUD ?

First it was leaked , now so much confusion over hardware requirements
    Not a good start

    :-)
