    Default Phones for the deaf

An elderly Mate (81) has trouble hearing the phone ringing when he has his Hearing Aids out.

He also has trouble hearing the speech, but tells me he can hear speech better with his Hearing Aids out.

Any Suggestions as to what may help?

Phones can be set to vibrate ( assuming its a mobile) -- if he has it on his person, he should feel it ring, mine often starts vibrating a second or two before it actually rings.

How old (good) are the hearing aids ? A person I know in the bowling club has almost invisible aids, they are blu-tooth connected, often think he's gone loopy talking to himself, but he's actually on a call, even though the phone was never heard ( apart from by him) and in his pocket the whole time.

Just did a quick google search -- This place may be of some help for options https://www.deafquip.co.nz

He should also speak with whomever he sees for his hearing check-ups. They may be able to adjust the hearing aid or suggest options.

What phone? cell or landline? Guy next door is deaf, completely...he has a doorbell that activates a flashing light, and a phone...although the phone gets ignored unless his daughter answers it. He has a cellphone but uses txt only.

There are gadgets available for the deaf with landline phones, cell, I don't know...other than vibrate.

It might be expensive but even an older iphone and apple watch? or android device and smart watch?

my apple watch buzzes and rings on my wrist when there's a call. and it's very very loud at full volume. the vibrator is really strong too, and the health features it offers can be great for elderly people.

Is something like type talk not available here? My deaf nephew in England used to use that before cellphones became common place. He also has a vibrating smoke alarm installed in his bed because if he turns off his Cochlear implant ha can hear nothing at all.

    Thanks Wainui,

He's purchased a Oricom 80 from them so I'll get back on how it goes.

Thanks to the others who responded also.
