Humans, a rather dim, arrogant animal that overrates it's own intelligence tells themselves all sorts of rubbish and believes it with a vengeance.
Trump won the election.
Vaccines are bad.
Various variations of human (colour, body shape, etc) are inferior.
Look at medicine, strychnine, mercury were all touted as the cure for yonks. Germ theory was considered rubbish.

As for our bodies, who put the recreational area through the plumbing? Why do our eyes have the optic nerve wired from the front - backwards from octopi, thus giving us a blind spot and them none?

Cancer....which happens to ALL animals, past and current. Basically because it's a copy error. Metastatic cancer is only possible because our own macrophages transport the cancer cells across the barriers in the body.
And so on.

I could give you tons of examples.

It's mainly because humans can't handle the idea that we are small, insignificant in the universe, here for a short time (individually and as a species) and like to make up stories about how the entire thing is all about us.
