Default Happy Easter. Don't forget the reason for the season.

I hope that you are enjoying your long weekend, but I wish that you have not forgotten the reason for the season.

You don't need to profess that you are a Christian (although if you are at the retirement age you were most probably brought up that way) but at least be aware that if it were not for the story (whether you believe it or not) you would not have a four day weekend.

So enjoy your time off work and remember that if NZ was not a Christian Country you most probably would not have a four day weekend.

I needed it after a busy week of retirement. Sure is tough, but as the saying goes......... "Someone has to do it"

And don't forget, one of the big advantages of the weekend is that we have two days (Friday and Sunday) without any commercials on the TV. That has to be a bonus. At one time it used to be no commercials on a Sunday. What happened to that? Too many non believers?

The problem is that Easter is NOT a Christian festival - it originates from Oestre?; a pagan festival that Constantine forced on the Roman empire in an effort to combine the Christians and the pagans.

That is true. Mind you, all commercials and station promos are louder than the programmes (although the TV stations will deny that) which is one of the reasons why we mute the commercials.

Thousands of people were crucified in those days, so why single out and celebrate just one.

Pagan festivals allowed for dancing, singing, drinking and general merriment, where as christian festivals are all about repentance, abstinence and generally being miserable. I know which I prefer and its not the latter.

Because the thousands were criminals. The one that they singled out was Jesus Christ, the son of God. I thought everyone knew that story. Where have you been? On another planet?
