And just as a bonus, even if there is no fire, if you have to cut someone out, or pull cars apart, there is somewhere between 400v - 900v to deal with.

to be fair, just as many dangers cutting people out of crashed petrol cars , allways the risk of fire .
and the risks with airbags going off .

Ive had a petrol car (Viva) catch on fire , while driving down the motorway .
PLASTIC airfilter box fell onto the exhaust manifold/pipes .

Plenty of fires with petrol cars . Its not just an EV issue , although petrol cars wont re-ignite several times after the fires put out .
We dont worry about fire risks with all the lithium batts in cheap devises thoughout our home or in our pocket .

We dont worry about fire risks with all the lithium batts in cheap devises thoughout our home or in our pocket .

That is because not one of them can provide anything like the Volts or Amps of an EV battery.

Are you telling me that having a tangled mess with the potential of there being somewhere between 400v & 900v running around supported by 7616 cells is “Pretty much a Non Issue”.

Actually, I've seen it stated that the only good way to extinguish a lithium battery fire is water.... lots and lots of water to a) remove the heat, and b) flood out the air feeding the fire.

There is a loop of heavy orange wire in Teslas near the door pillars which are actually there to make them easy access to deliberately cut, and they include tags to indicate they should be cut. It may be that the process of cutting them serves to blow a very major pyro fuse at the level of the battery pack, but I'm speculating there, but it seems reasonable that is the purpose.

In todays Driven there is an article about new batteries.........not lithium. Some while away yet but they have been developed.
