Having to take 2 weeks off at Christmas is a right pain the proverbial, I would rather work and take the time off in Feb but my industry shuts down at Christmas. .

How backward. Does anyone do that now?
Sons work shuts but not for that long...........so he still gets to take leave at other times.

As for xmas...who cares what it's called.
For most kids it has nothing to do with some fictional guy way back when, it's about some fictional guy in a red suit at the North POle. Never told my son either lie.

I was fairly lucky in that regard. I worked for Telecom and we could take leave just about any time we wanted, so I would take the days off between Christmas and New Year so I could have two weeks off for five days leave, then take a couple of weeks later on in February with the family before the children went back to school.

Nowadays, being retired, we like to go on holiday after the schools have returned, in February and March and everyone is back at work. The weather is usually at it's best and the beaches and camping grounds are not so busy.

Oh get real. We have an extra day now...Matariki. Yay, and in that spot where there are no holidays for ages.

Husband worked there too, NZPost before it was Telecom, he worked the stats. Double time, time in lieu and then we'd go on holiday in February.

Why do you say "some fictional guy way back when," when you know when it happened - 2021 years ago. And it's not a lie - it's history. It's a story recorded in all the religions of the world - millions upon millions of people, so it seems as though you are just a little bit outnumbered.

And so it seems that you don't have Christmas in your household. No Christmas Tree and no decorations? So I assume no Easter either. What a sad place you must live in. So what do you (or did you) tell your children when their friends at school told them all about the presents they received or lovely chocolate Easter Eggs they found. They must have had many questions to ask as to why their family was not the same as everyone else. They must have had such a deprived childhood. Poor children.

I always enjoyed Christmas and Easter with our kids and Granddaughter. All a non event now they are grown up. Not a religious person at all.

Organised religion is the written by man to control the masses always has been. Before then everyone was free to worship who or what they wanted too. All that changed when some man realised that he could become very rich and powerful if he could control the masses. Maybe some man called Jesus did exist, he would have just been a man like any other. He certainly would not have been a god, deity or even a messiah.

Religion is just mind control and appears to be alive and well even in this day and age. Do we celebrate Christmas or Easter? No but we do give very minor presents and have a block of chocolate and attach no religious idiology to those happenings. Call it what you will but don't expect everyone to believe fiction.

You're right - not everybody, just the vast majority of mankind. That's all the religions in the world. And it's not fiction - it's history and it happened 2021 years ago. So if you think it's fiction you are in the minority. Why do you think they refer the past years as BC and AD (Before Christ and Anno Domini - After Christ) if Christ was fictional? Let's face it, you are outnumbered.

I agree with your description of religion however I also believe that the human race appears to have to have something outside themselves to believe in. Perfectly intelligent people are quite prepared to believe a lot of contradictory things for which there is no way to know exactly what is actually correct. Currently the replacement religions of choice are Climate Change and or Covid Porn. Both are used by politicians and their selected experts to frighten and control the public in exactly the same fashion as practiced by the priests of old. They do it because it keeps them rich and they can get away with it because they have enough believers that any opposing facts or ideas can be ignored.

Just before anyone gets their knickers in a knot be aware that I have no problem with what what you believe. We are all entitled to have our own opinions and believe whatever we want to.
