How do I tell her without offending?

Last week I went to a gathering, mostly middle aged people, and one of the volunteers who helped us (many disabled) is a very nice young girl I assume in her twenties. I thought that she looked lovely in her summer dress (NOT sexy but lovely) and I would have liked to tell her so but I am old enough to be her grandfather and so I imagine that I would be thought of as a dirty old man. So how do I pay her a compliment without offending? I'd like to know.

Come on you young ones. What can I say without offending?

How well do you know her? Has she been there awhile? If she is a newby, refrain and just admire from a distance. She knows it's a nice dress and probably doesn't need your comment unless you know her reasonably well.

No, I don't know her well. All you could say is that I am an acquaintance. She is a volunteer to our group and I have very little to do with her as I don't need any help as many of our disabled members of our group do. She is fairly new so perhaps as you say, I should just refrain.

In this day and age unless you know the female very well it is prudent to admire from afar and keep your comments to yourself. There are just far too many individuals ready to take offence at the drop of a hat.
