Default Internet links superseded by descriptions

Firstly, apologies, because I struggled with the wording of my title. However, to expand my problem, previously when I entered a link into a document it showed http:/ etc, etc. More recently (about two months ago) the link shows with a description. In digital form, that is not a problem, you can still Ctrl + click to go to the website. Now, that is fine if you send a digital copy to someone, however, as I quite often do, it is a hard copy - but then the details of the link for copying purposes do not show!

I find it hard to believe that I am the only one to have this frustration. Is there perhaps a workaround?

I assume this is in word or a similar program?

Had that happen a couple of times when inserting links in emails, (outlook 365) it renames them to something more describing what it goes to. Had a quick look but cant see anything obvious as to what's set to change them.

Its quite simple to actually manually create a link (renamed) but cant find where the Auto rename is located

    Example

Assuming your documents are Word I think you need to turn off automatic hyperlinks. Try this page to see if it helps.

    https://support.clarivate.com/Endnot...language=en_US

Or do a search in google for "how to turn off automatic hyperlinks in word".

What you can also do as a work around, is when pasting in a link and it changes, click the box with Ctrl+, select the Clipboard with A on it. This then shows the full address, works in Outlook and Word.

    Many thanks to both responders!

tommy - the link didn't really work for me, however I did a search on Google as you suggested. This guy told me how to change it and it worked

wainui - am sure that you are right as always - but have not managed to get working yet! Still, it is getting later in the day ....... and I am running out of steam!

Its a little hard to explain - So I did A quick Video

This is into a word Doc but the same works for Outlook.

Each Step Go to Web Site - copy the address you want.
Paste ( heres the gotya) Paste with Ctrl+V Not right click Paste

When you paste in on the right is a Format? box, Click the down Arrow Select the Clipboard with the A
This will change the URL to what it actually is. So it can be copied if in a printed document.

IF you do right click Paste, you can do the same thing, right click Paste but select the clipboard With A and it didn't rename it.

Hope that makes sence. its only a work Around. I haven't found how to disable it completely. But one thing I did notice - it does it more if you copy/paste from Edge.

This hopefully makes it a little more clearer ? Video > https://streamable.com/jhu04w

Just thinking while watching the video, you may be able to change the default paste format to the text as on the Clipboard with the A. it will be somewhere.

FOUND IT.. You change one setting in Outlook. Watch this video, all instructions on Video. This is in outlook, new mail.

You can also do it from the main window - From File - Options (same as new mail) the setting appears to hold no matter which way you do it.

Same Settings will work in Word Documents. One step different though. In Word -- File - Options - Advanced - Scroll down to same setting as above.

I been having the same thing in outlook, then re-read the original post-- Yours says Document. Hence the outlook fix and now the word as well
