After highlighting text and then want to exit that ... big delay in response time

For some reason, almost always when I highlight text and copy, then what happens (in almost any application
that I can think of), when I click outside of the text to get rid of the highlighting, there is a considerable delay.
Cannot understand why this should be??

I have the equivalent of a modern gaming set-up (for my big demands in photographic editing)
so, can be pretty certain it is not capacity that is a problem. Any thoughts please? :-(

Have you restarted your computer? I find sometimes my computer does what you are describing, a restart solves the problem.
