    Default Internet Connection

I have an 8-year old Toshiba laptop and a 1-month old Dell laptop. My internet modem is in the lounge. Both laptops work very well in the lounge. But when I am in the bedroom, approx. distance of 5m beeline, both have difficulties with the internet speed. The Toshiba just manages, even movies, but the Dell stops working after a couple of minutes. My question is not about computer brands but rather on why an 8-year old systems is working better than a new one in this instance. Any recommendation on how I can improve Dell's internet speed?

    Thank you.

There's Many Reasons as to why range is short. Are you connecting with 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?. 5GHz WILL be shorter than 2.4.

Have a read of the following some suggestions and reasons as to why range is shorter than expected. The article was published in 2017 but is still very current.

The older computer will log on to 2.4 GHz, the Dell will log on to 5 GHz, which is faster but has a shorter range. My guess is that if you log the Dell onto 2.4 GHz they will be the same. We have the same situation where 5 GHz only works steadily in the living room, 2.5 GHz is good in the rest of the house.

new is not allways better :-)
some devices just work better/worse on wifi.
My brand new tablet has worse wifi reception than my older tablet (both have 2.4 & 5.8) .

Wifi is a network connection of convenience . If you have issues then thats just the way it is .
Some homes have walls & floors that seem to block wifi (incl mine)
Buy a EOP/homeplug/powerline device . Or run cables with multiple Wifi access points
