You consider this when you live in or move to the rural life. If you wanna live in the wops then crap or non-existent internet is a feature. You chose it - don't moan about it.

It's not reasonable to suggest that someone who makes their living by working out in the back of beyond should be required to move just to suit your idea of modern life. It's just not practical to move a large hill country sheep Station into the city. The country needs those people and what they produce every bit as much as we do accountants, shopkeepers and all the other people who make their living in the big smoke.

One just now receives cheques from someone overseas, and she reciprocates with cheques and because she has a "brain injury" she can't use electronic banking, and presumably neither can the person overseas.

Now I accept this, if true, is unfortunate, but these people seriously expect the entire banking system to remain in the 19th century because THEY have special needs, and THEY consider it discrimination because THEY are special.

Shall we do away with wheelchair ramps and accessible parking spaces etc too? Are the unfortunate among us limiting your ability to use internet banking? Didn't think so.

The entire banking industry is not stuck in the 19th century! If that were actually the case, internet banking wouldn't exist. But it does. So what's your problem?

It sounds like YOU need to "get over it" - some people do actually have problems the rest of us don't. It is discrimination if you accept that they have a valid problem but you still don't care.

Couldn't agree more. But if you CHOOSE to make your living in the wops then don't complain if you can't get the services that others can.

And don't expect banking to retain an anachronistic product used by a minority because of your choices.

Personally when Customers offer cheques or Cash these days its a PITA !!! No Banks In Wainui, have to make a special trip to Lower Hutt to deposit cheques, then unless you pay a early fee release it takes 3-5 days to Clear any funds and appear in the account.

The funny thing is some have asked for a discount for cash - they get rather annoyed if I say sorry its actually more for cash if you want to go that route, as its cost me $$.

Paywave is similar - Ever noticed some places have signs up saying No Paywave ? That's because the retailer has to pay a fee for EVERY transaction the same with cheques and Credit Card, and these fees build up in a month.

It was OK during Covid lockdowns as the banks waved the fees. Theresa Theres a big advantage of having mobile Eftpos.

Not explicitly, but from what I gathered from the original story, they are for some people. Why should something that helps someone be taken away from them just because you don't like it?

I'm really not seeing any evidence that people who like to/have to use cheques are trying to stop the world...

Both cheques and internet banking have existed for some time now without issue. Surely they could both continue to exist without issue. The way you are reacting it's as if the existence of cheques prevent you or anyone else from using internet banking, which isn't true.

I just love how townies think the world revolves around them. Cheques are not hurting anyone, yes they are old world tech but so are a lot of other things, so should we ditch everything that isn't 22nd century because townies think they are being hurt by their existence?

Down in Southland I didn't take cheques then. IT was 2006....
No-one was bothered, no-one complained and almost no-one actually offered me one. They weren't "townies" either....most were farmers and rural.
