You are generalizing. Not all car drivers are idiots, not all cyclists are idiots. I used to be a cyclist and a professional and private driver. It does not work out the way you say.

generalising a bit yes, but not as much as you think. a big part of it is location. we don't get much "commuter" type bike traffic so the two "types" stand out really easily.
but on the other hand when i worked in auckland, there was no tourist riders and funny enough most bikes you saw where just complete nutjobs.
beach areas its often more family bikers which are usually good and the odd person that looks like they are training for something.

sorry to say, in my experience, if it doesn't look like a tourist it will be a local and they will do something really stupid and promptly blame everyone else.

Really.
Having lived in Auckland and now in Napier where there are loads of bike people, I don't see that at all.
Sure the lycra clad groups, who seem to be the "serious" ones tend to bike side by side but down here? No.
Nor Auckland.
Just single riders getting from A to B.

One sunny day in January 2021 an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he’d been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said,
"I would like to go in and meet with President Trump.”
The Marine looked at the man and said,
"Sir, Mr Trump is no longer President and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, "Okay", and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine,
“I would like to go in and meet with President Trump."
The Marine repeated,
"Sir, as I told you yesterday, Mr Trump is no longer President and no longer resides here.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the old man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying again,
“I would like to go in and meet with President Trump."
The Marine, understandably irritated at this point, looked at the man and said,
"Sir, this is the third day in a row you've been here asking to speak to Trump.
I've told you each time that he's no longer the President and no longer resides here.
Don’t you get it?"

The old man looked at the Marine and said,
"Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it."

The Marine snapped to attention and said,
"See you tomorrow, Sir."
