How can I run two Firefox browsers on the same OS?

My main OS is Linux Mint. I have Chrome, Chromium, Firefox, & Pale Moon browsers.
I have the Firefox set up with a VPM & Bookmarks for Australia. The rest have no VPM's. I like Firefox because the Tabs are visible in Full Screen mode, and it is not so nosy as Chrome.
I would like to run a second copy of Firefox, replacing Google Chrome, but when I try to install it I am told that it is already installed.
How can I install a second copy?

Technically this is not a second FF But it will work exactly as it is simply open FF, open a second Tab, then drag the tab off the main window. It will create a second Version which is completely independent to the first.

Yes, but that's just the same as a new window

Still has exactly the same profile/bookmarks/add-on extensions/etc

I think what mzee wants is 2 completely independent browsers each with their own profiles - bookmarks - settings - etc

you can do that(it's bit of a long slightly complicated process ), but the easiest way is just to have one portable edition

OK - you'll first need to download FF portable

Install it somewhere, and then go to " FirefoxPortable\Other\Source " and copy the FirefoxPortable.ini file to the main " FirefoxPortable " folder

You may or may not see the "ini" file extension depending on how your comp is set up, but just look for the FirefoxPortable file that is "configuration settings" under the type

Once you have copied it to the main FirefoxPortable folder, right click on it and select edit

find the line that has " AllowMultipleInstances=false " and change the false to true... " AllowMultipleInstances=true "

save the edited file

Now you should be good to go with 2 independant FF's

(You may need to make a shortcut to the portable one where you want it)

Thanks. Just open the Profile Manager in the terminal 'firefox --profilemanager', make a new profile. The manager will open when the shortcut is selected and you can select the one you want to open.
You can make a shortcut, but I havn't done that.
