Chrome OS is ideal for education purposes, allowing students to do their homework on a cheap, light, no maintenance computer. I agree that you are better off with a standard Linux OS, but the schools are set up to use the Google education apps, and it works well. Also the kids are less likely to get side tracked with games etc.

Ugh. Getting kids and all their personal data hooked into Google from early age? No thanks.

Homework should be banned anyway, the school is for learning, don't make kids work on schoolwork, overtime at home as well...

Besides, if you give them Linux they might learn more about computers than on some locked-down OS.

I learnt a lot from having my own computer, breaking it, fixing it, reinstalling Windows, etc.

I agree with you about Homework. After a full day in the classroom, and possibly sports afterwards, plus chores at home the kids need need time to themselves. Study when you are tired is a waste of time, you won't remember it.
