Yep that looks like the Problem, that link says wont work on "Any Intel Atom, Celeron or Pentium variants made BEFORE 2012."

Could be because its Linux Based. Chrome OS was originally produced for Specific Hardware, if you look at the download pages there are specific Brands / Makes and models that are listed for specific Builds.

Windows maybe a little more able to adapt to the older hardware (to a degree). I have a couple of Old Laptops here that Run windows fine, slow but that's expected, but try to install Linux and they spit the dummy.

Not too sure about that last bit.
Just installed Linux Mint 20 without any problems.

Maybe so, But Chrome OS is based on a version of Linux, modified, by you're own admission its not working and the link posted clearly says the Laptop is to old (CPU) to run it.

The ONLY version of Linux that One of the Laptops will run is a version that came with PC USER Magazine, (2008) UserOS 8.04

I have just installed neverware/chrome os on a Dell Inspiron mini 10, originally came out with Windows XP. It has an Intel Atom 1.6 CPU. The only thing that doesn't work is the keyboard shortcut to toggle the trackpad off/on. Because its a Windows keyboard, instead of Shift+Search+P, it is Shift+windows-key+P. Works with Celeron, but not Atom. Overheating was a problem with Windows, but much better on Chrome OS. The only other OS that does the same is FatDog 64. Even Linux Light overheats.

Why would you want to use Chrome OS over a normal version of Linux? You lose features that make Linux great, and have Google's added tracking and who-knows-what-else attached. It makes no sense to me. I'd install Lubuntu or something.

As I said in my first post, it was just a experiment to see if it would work.

Just came across this, thought Driftwood might be interested:

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Thanks, it will run that ok but I found it very limited in what it was useful for.
This was just an experiment on a redundant laptop.
