Terylene and Gabardine, words I've forgotten I even knew.

Both were hard wearing material.

Scottish tweed is another one.

Yes back in history, not that long ago either, recycling really was. The rag and bone man, people washed bottles out and reused them, themselves or the bottle place.
Tins too.

Well used to be capitalist back then too...but things were made to last. I look at our bin and 90% of it is plastic packaging.

Ditch the plastic and we would have very little.

Electric Hedge Trimmer from 1981 - had blades sharpened about 5 years ago. Lots of non-powered hand tools as well. A fridge/freezer bought 1982 was replaced in late 2018- must state that the freezer iced up more quickly at that age. I wish we could go back to old style electric jugs whereby one could buy a replacement (Eutron?) element and screw it in oneself. All new ones seem to be moulded parts which makes repair impossible

trouble is the element costs about the same as the jug. the molded in elements don't seam to corrode as bad like the old ones, which is often a big reason why they die.

My Seiko watch which I bought from Stewart Dawson, a Dunedin jewellery shop in 1993. Still fit for purpose and accurate. Had to replace batteries several times. It still correctly shows the time, day and date. I looked at our nana's Seiko watch in the 90s and decided to buy one of my own. Sadly she passed away at age 100 in 2007.

I still own my golf clubs and bag which I bought around 1993 but don't use them now as I had a mild stroke in 2014 weakening my left arm and shoulder a bit. I could still use these clubs on a golf course or driving range but I wouldn't be able to hit the ball as far and straight as before my stroke.

Older stuff is worth repairing too. Nothing new is built to last. We're all going to drown in a sea of rubbish.

Have you any stuff you had it for 20yrs and still using? Not just items that was bought second hand and you've not owned for 20yrs personally.

Until recently, I had a pair of jandals I bought when I was ~25. Used them every summer, threw them out two months ago when the sole finally got that worn down that the fabric pulled through.

Still have a Panasonic RX-CT900 Boombox - twin deck cassette player with detachable speakers. Bought in early 90's, still going to this day although I mainly use it as my daily alarm clock w/ radio wake-up.

2 nail guns, a skil saw, a jigsaw, a dynadrill, a dropsaw all close to 30 years old and until last year all used weekly, now its only the nail guns everything else has been slowly replaced with cordless tools

I still have a Estwing hammer my dad bought 50 years ago , and still use it. Just the same as a new one .
Also various spanners I bought 35 years ago , and a Japanese socket set I bought from Farmers (better quality than Chinese stuff today)

Quality tools are still good no matter how old.
