Building new computer next year. Any suggestions?

Hi.
Next year, I want to put together a new computer. Aiming at using M.2 Gen4 PCIe NVMe Motherboard and SSD. There's a few available price ranging from $180NZ to over $1000NZ. My budget is $1000NZ. I don't need dual PCIE16 slots but two M.2 slots would be advantageous. I have AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, 16GB Crucial Ballistix 3200MHz DDR4 and an AMD Radeon Sapphire Nitro RX580 GPU.
I also have a 550W CoolerMaster PSU which may not be powerful enough to run the Radeon RX580 GPU (recommended 600W for that GPU), a Corsair HX750 PSU and 16GB DDR4 GSkill FlareX 2833MHz (both of those last two items currently in use)

This M.2 PCIe NVMe says it is Gen4 but in the specs it shows as being NVMe Gen4 Interface PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4

That M.2 is cheap in comparison to these two below and I wonder why. Perhaps someone could comment on that.

There is this option at a great price and was highly recommended by numerous reviewers, but I have read comments about receiving damaged items from the supplier.

Now lets say I get both the Gigabyte motherboard and SSD at a cost of $461NZ that leaves me with $540 to play with; new 750W-850W PSU?

Or, I could get the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for $369NZ... or the 3400G for $299NZ and do away with the RX580 GPU

So why not just upgrade it? For $1000 you could get far better doing that than starting over.

What ever you decide, I'd suggest you buy parts in NZ, that way if there's any warranty issues it "Should" get resolved a lot quicker.

The Power Supply -- Don't skimp on it, thats what WILL give problems if its not powerful enough, better to have a bit in spare than have it Struggling.

The Case -- Do you want it for show, Glitz and Glamour with all the flashing not really doing anything lights or simply a box to put it all in ? All the extra flash bits cost $

Hell I remember when I was building a new PC for the Mrs, she said a cardboard box for all she cared, so I did Of course I got a hard time over it LOL And did put it in a actual case.

When building suggest you only have one drive attached when installing the OS from NEW. Then once the Main OS is all setup with new drivers, running well, Image the Drive before installing ANYTHING else. Then connect the Second drive(s).

That states it is NVMe PCIe M.2 and in the details it states this

In the "Storage" it states this:

NVMe is not PCIe. "Then, you can know that PCIe and NVMe are two different things. They are not conflicted with each other. They can corporate with each other to make the SSD better. But please note that a NVMe SSD is always a PCIe SSD, but a PCIe SSD may be not a NVMe SSD."

I'll add , buy all the parts from the one NZ shop. Tell them all parts have to be compatible .
That way , if theres a weird hard to trace hardware issue , you take the whole lot back to them .

If you get the shop to build to your spec , they have to sort out any weird hardware issues without any excuses .

You might have long delays if buying from overseas , due to xmas & covid . Could take 1 week - 3 months for delivery . 3 months isnt an exaggeration

Well the easy way to look at it is look at the actual Motherboard Spec's, as per the one linked in this original post, under "Storage interface" https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...H-rev-1x/sp#sp , which states "type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SSDs:" Any of those listed numbers/models should work, So keep it simple.

Looking at the links on some of the NVMe's "Designed with an M.2 2280,"

Both in Bold above.

I'd be more inclined to look at the Manufactures site for real specs on their product over some retail shop that may have had someone over eager to up / supply specs.

Same with the CPU Go to the manufactures site, locate the board, under the Supported CPU list look for what you have / Want Is It Listed ? Sweet if it is then it should work as its been tested and confirmed. Sometimes the Board may need a BIOS update for a certain CPU to work, but that will be listed as to which is the lowest version.

To many people try to read to much into all the Specs and end up going ga-ga

Edited: TOTALLY Agree with 1101's post about all from the one shop, Seen it many times when there's been some weird problem and the person had gotten parts from all over the place, all parties blame the others components as the fault, not theirs, unless its obvious like a huge scorch mark on something gone bang.

Seen it where a PSU shat itself, fried quite a few components, while the PSU got replaced under warranty the other shops didn't want to know about it as they never supplied the PSU.

One time a PC I had built, where the whole PC got fried (within an hour or so of delivering) claimed the warranty and they replaced everything overnight. That was a bit of truth bending

Hi and thanks. Yep I could upgrade that which I am using now but I want two computers. One for Gaming and video recoding/encoding/adding subtitles and the other for Browsing the internet, googling advice for error codes/CMD Prompts etc. I do not want to have 2 SSD's in the same computer both running W10 Pro x64 v20H2 and having to shutdown from the troubled OS SSD and get into UEFI to change Boot to the other SSD to go googling for info. I have been doing that and its a pain and can cause corruption in the Boot of them.
As for the important part for gaming being the CPU I have been using an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G for 2 years and it does all I want to do. The RX580 I have is connected to TV via HDMI and that is basically for watching movies/Netflix.... It or the TV does not have support for Games to show on the TV. Yep I could upgrade that which I have running at the moment, current rig is as follows
Asus Prime B450M-A, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, Samsung Evo 860 SSD, 500GB, 16GB GSkill FlareX 2933MHz (at 2400MHz because it BSOD if I raise it above that), Corsair HX750W Platinum Fully Modular, Radeon RX580 GPU, Asus VP248 60Hz 1ms Monitor
I also have a Intel 660P 512GB NVMe SSD that got its W10 OS mangled and I could wipe that, Image the Samsung SSD and migrate it to the Intel 660P which I bought about 8 months ago.
The Asus Mobo is PCIe NVM2 x4 and that is not Gen4. It's Gen3 x4.
This computer in use could be the one I use for recoding/encoding/Facebook/Fault finding info/gaming, Home theatre etc etc. I do have 3 other 24" monitors I could use one of. The new computer will be a fresh start, OS et al, very choosy indeed. With Gen4 PCIE capability.
Also considering this Motherboard: It has 3 PCIe x16 slots, 2 I will never use.

hi. Yep sounds good to me. All hardware from NZ store. I could get the supplier to build the computer using the parts I choose and advise if there is any compatibility issues. I walked into that annoyance when I built the current rig I use. I paid a lot for the 16GB FlareX 2933 DDR4 simply because a well known reviewer pushed it (3200MHz) when he was reviewing and recommending the Pro's of the Ryzen 5 2400G APU. He said Ryzen LOVES FAST RAM. The 2933MHz RAM
bought was not on the stated tested list for the Ryzen 2400G. Anything above 2400MHz and the computer BSOD'd unstable. I could have bought 2400MHz for a $100+ less. I couldn't afford the 3200 RAM Just as well as it turned out.

hi. Yep I stay shopping close to home, NZ. PSU I could get a 750W-850W... maybe 1000W.
Case no show or Perspex sides to have a RGB Disco PumpHouse lightshow. Good airflow most important. I have two old Towers here I could use, problem is front ports are USB1/2. Could cut holes in one to fit fans.
I have had my computer intestines on the table on a rubber mat and a fan blowing air over all, to keep it cool and the dust from settling. Worked well.
Yep, One drive only from now on. Yep I image it after OS Install/Updates/ Bitdefender/ and other necessary apps etc. Then I will connect a 2nd M.2 SSD or Sata SSD for Storage/Games. But, the object of having a 1TB NVMe PCIE Gen4 SSD is to install all to it and not have bottlenecks. Storage SSD for Downloads/Test/save movie encodes, Pics/Docs etc etc
