    Default Win10 20H2 networking

Setting up the home network has changed in ver 20H2.

How do I get to the Network settings to change the work group name, etc?

I just want to set up a simple home network for my 3 PCs.

It's all different in this version of Windows.

Go into the old control panel . Its still the best way for many things .
Control panel its still there but MS try & hide it from you . Do a Win10 search for control & you'll see it .

ctrl panel , system, advanced , computor name , change , (workgroup name)

More to it than that , you need to change share setting on the PC you want to access , and older PC's may not be accessible (smb1 issues , its broken since v2004)
Network browsing is a bit broken now , ie browing via the workgroup name . Access the other PC's shares via IP adress .

OR From (That Window) Search Type In System Open it, on the right click rename this PC (Advanced) -- On The window that Opens, Click Change and rename the Workgroup to suit.

Just adding to 1101's comment. SMB1 is turned off by default and can be turned back on easily enough -- Again from the old control Panel -- programs and features - On the Left Turn Windows features On or Off -- Scroll down and tick SMB1. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't as 1101 points out accessing Via IP is better, could mean you need to set static IP's on all computers instead of DHCP From the router.

Got it. But how do I share a folder?

    Before, I just right-click a folder -> Share with ->

Now, I can't find the Share with option to share a folder.

you can turn it on but it wont work properly , 2004 broke it & MS wont be fixing it.
Ive had issues with clients with win10 PC's and old servers where mapped drives wont connect & temp lockup if you click them. They had to roll back to previous 10 build till I found a workaround
    Same with old NAS's .

Could write it all out but easier to show, This is Via Windows Sandbox Create folder ( or use existing), Right click -->>>>

    https://streamable.com/i61w1c

Also shows Opening via the Run Command --- Usually by another PC,(Shown,-- the Sandbox to one of my Servers) but only an example ( or you can map a drive / Create Shortcut) Normally you would have a Computer Name, but this is Via as mentioned Windows Sandbox.

The Video Shows Selecting Everyone has permissions, if you were wanting Only certain Users you can select them as long as they have accounts on the computers- sort of like when accessing Servers. Windows is now using ( for some time) the server style sharings and settings. Obviously on a real server you have a LOT more control/ options with shares.

Windows Sandbox is a TEMP Virtual Machine on Windows 10 pro and above. Not available on Home.

    Still got problem:

    Both PCs are Win10 ver 20H2 :

PC #1 Computer Name: ABC with a login user name and a password.
PC #2 Computer Name: XYZ with a login user without password.

Both PCs can 'see' each other. but, PC ABC cannot access PC XYZ --- asks for Credential user name and password

XYZ can access ABC without issues.

Windows Security requires Credentials to connect to XYZ. -- Have set up Windows Credential ABC with username and password. saved and restarted.

When I type in the username with blank in the password box (as PC#2 XYE doesn't need a password to log in)

Error: You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact Administrator .... blank passwords aren't allowed.....

Am I right to say that I will have to assign a password for PC#XYZ in order for the network to work?

If you want to have sharing password required you then need to sign in with a User name and password thats on the computer you are trying to access.

You can still have a different user name and password to sign into the computer without effecting shared folders.

To by pass it completely, two things:

    1. Disable password protected sharing in the OLD control Panel.

    Open the Control Panel app.
Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center.
On the left, click on the link Change advanced sharing settings.
On the next page, expand the All Networks section.
Under Password protected sharing, enable the option Turn off password protected sharing.

    With Pictures - https://winaero.com/password-protect...ng-windows-10/

    2. Make sure your Network Type connection is set to PRIVATE not Public.

Open Start > Settings > Network & Internet, under Network Status, click the Properties Button - Make sure or Select PRIVATE.

BTW -- None of these settings are new, they have been like this for several years.

    Good morning, wainuitech.

Followed your instructions closely. still doesn't work. Password protected sharing is turned OFF, set to private .

The moment I put in a password to login to PC#2 XYZ it works straight away. When the password is removed, it cannot be access.

Have tried several times. exactly same results.

    Something isn't quite right, somehow.
