It's not the sale I object to, it's the reason why we are having the sale. What has American Black Friday got to do with New Zealand?

What does halloween? Diwali have to do with NZ? But they're celebrated.
Shops have decided, well Americans go stupid over this day, and it's an excuse to tie in local $$$ to what would otherwise go overseas as well as our boxing day. Which is our traditional big selling day.

I love Halloween.

Black Friday...well it pays to know what things cost BEFORE the sale as there are some things that aren't really cheap.

But one shop will be selling mattresses for $99 and I need one, so I have their store bookmarked.

It's roughly as appropriate as Queen's Birthday in NZ, but more useful.
