    Default Recuva program query

Can anyone explain to me where the "deleted" items reside on a computer. When examining the Recuva database, there seems to be thousands of items. Is this taking up a lot of disk space with specific files? Can the file, or parts of it, be permanently expunged. If it can be, how would one go about it?

Deleted items are in fact all still there. Deleting just removes the indexing and releases the space to be used again. Old data is soon overwritten and becomes more and more difficult to recover as time goes by and eventually becomes unrecoverable with any program.
In brief forget it, in practical terms it no longer takes up any space.

Yeah, data doesn't actually get deleted, it gets overwritten, this is how the cops catch some idiots out, thinking they have actually deleted stuff but its recoverable.

As stupid as this may sound with the right data recovery software you can actually recover (some damaged) more than the actual capacity of the drive. Did one the other day, an old drive, 55GB (would have been 60) yet recovered around 90GB in data.

If you really want to delete data there are programs that will do it. CCleaner for example will allow you to wipe free space which will hold previous deleted data, you can overwrite it 32 times.
