Default Is that the end of CDs and DVDs?

You can download music, films (and programmes) or just stream them so why would you buy a CD or a DVD? My new laptop does not have a CD slot so if I want to listen to some music I can just go on to You Tube and stream it there.

So what to do with all those CDs and DVDs in your collection? Do you just throw them away? Because I can't think of anyone who would want to buy them.

While a lot of Laptops these days don't have optical drives you can still use your CD /DVD's just attach a external Optical Drive Via USB.

Lots of the streaming videos and Music is Crap compared to original Quality on Say a Music CD or DVD or Blu-Ray. The problem is people have gotten used to rubbish quality.

Personally I use CD /DVD's almost every day.

I'm actually using a DVD of W10 20H2 ( latest version) on a laptop right at the moment, it wont boot from a USB drive no matter what I tried, and there's nothing wrong with the USB, it boots fine on others, but throw in a DVD on the external Drive and it booted no problems. Its being reinstalled due to a New Hard Drive after the original spat the dummy BIG time.

You can still buy records , those big black circle thingies.
I think you can even buy audio tapes still.
Vinyl (records) did recently overtake Music CD's in sales.

Plenty of people still have Hifi CD players .
I still buy CD's , IF I like it after listening to it digitally on the PC .
I have a CD player in my car, in my HIFI , in both spare rooms .

Music CD's and DVDs are selling less , but will be around for quite some time yet. Its still a money earner .
It will become harder to find what you want on CD or DVD , as less & less will be released on CD DVD as years go by.

I too use an external Optical Drive connected to laptop by USB
I like watching DVDs both fictional and documentary including music concerts.
There is still 1 DVD store reasonably close plus public libraries have plenty of selections.
Some are of a series nature with episodes and often i wish to watch 1 episode only each night so I do not get jaded with the story.
Is that 1 episode only option available on "live streaming?"
External Optical Drive also avoids data usage

You can sell them on trademe . Or to a store that sells used CD's & DVD's
They are almost worthless value used .
    Ive bought a few used CD's off trademe recently . Anywhere from $2 - $10 .

Ive been thinning out my many hundreds of CD's , throwing them in the bin if they only have 1 good song (as most seem to do) , or if its one I never listen to as I have better ones .
So Im keeping the jems, binning the so so's .

" In 2019, a total of 46.5 million physical CDs were shipped in the United States"

Still money to be made off them , so they may be around a while yet.
    Make for 50c (a guess) , sell for $30 .

Old tech takes ages to die off , especially when theres some nostalgia factor in it , like records .
Geeze, there are still people driving cars powered by petrol, in this day and age.

Yes. Some of us hate batteries.

"A PHEV works exactly the same, except that it has a much bigger battery that can also be recharged by plugging it in; so it can drive quite a long way just on electricity (30-50km is typical)"

Oh yeah...that wouldn't have got my son to work, never mind there and back.

All this crap about "save the planet" by mining lithium and cluttering the place with dead batteries.
    Yeah right.

I still play my 200 or so CD's on a regular basis, I have digitised them into .flac onto my computer so I can put them onto a flash drive to use in my ute. But playing them that way on my hifi system still doesn't sound as good as when the CD is played
