Is it possible to send a text message from my computer, using gmail.com, to an NZ mobile phone which is on a local carrier? I have done that to a phone on a US carrier successfully.

Thanks for the suggestion piroska. I am a bit wary though about giving a third party someone's mobile number, in case the third party starts sending them spam texts, or other unwanted stuff.
What could make it easier is if I had Spark's (in this case) SMS gateway address?
If you are running Windows 10 you can try the inbuilt "Your Phone" app. Go to search (icon next to start button) Type in Phone Select Your phone - Follow instructions. You are using your own accounts on both MS and Whom ever your Phone provider are.
Thanks wainuitech, I'll look into that.
I did try texting a local phone (on Vodaphone) from my computer, using Gmail, sending to Vodaphone's SMS gateway address. Received an email response which told me that I had to join their business setup for this, which would enable texting to mobile phones from computers.
Don't there's any free ones, they all want something from you.
Sign up to 2talk with the option to use xxx@sms.2talk.co.nz and you can do that from Outlook or Gmail.
I use it frequently for scheduling reminders to people. Works very well.
If you have an Android phone you can tie you phone to your web browser and send and receive from there . This is what I use https://messages.android.com

Thanks for the extra suggestions. 2talk would to the job, but it looks like way over the top for my occasional requirement!
