Default Wellington Trams - a question.

I have been reading a magazine with an article on Wellington Trams and seeing photographs I am reminded of the three coloured lights above the destination but I do not know what they were for. Is there anyone from Wellington about that time (1940s - 1950s) that know what those lights were for?

    Your help is appreciated.

The lights indicated the destination which was helpful to see when your particular tram was on its way. I don't recall them now, but for example, three plain lights for Island Bay etc.

Thanks very much for that, Pato. I lived in Hataitai in the 1950s and rode the trams quite often but I never knew what the lights were for. I was only a youngster at the time so I was rarely out at night so I don't remember those lights being lit.

Are they still running the old Wellington trams at Queen Elizabeth Park in Paekakariki?

As far as I am aware, yes they are. They have the two types of Wellington trams, the faducia and the open saloon (called the toaster ).
