HDD or SSD

It sounds like the HDD in wifes laptop might be on way out, don't worry full backup of all data done and will image it over the weekend as well.

Looking for the best solution thinking an SSD, laptop is a 3 year old Asus.

Any brand recommendations please or am I better off sticking with a traditional HDD?

Ssds are still expensive compared to a spinning hard drive, it they’re a great upgrade.

Feels like the machine gets a new lease of life.

I use Samsung SSD's. Makes an enormous difference compared to the old hard drive,well worth it.And Samsung have handy tools for cloning/copying the hard drive to their ssd.

I have a Samsung EVO860 250Gb. Love it, so much better in response time to HDD. Also have a Crucial in another machine which is also good and cheaper than the Samsung. Check PBTech online for pricing. You wont go wrong with an SSD, only use HDD for storage now.

If she doesn't need the capacity, then SSD is certainly faster. Just smaller usually.

SSD's are now so cheap, its crazy to even consider old school mechanical drives
SSD is the best performance upgrade you can do on a PC/laptop , especially with Win10

I wonder, how much longer will consumer grade mechanical HD's be available ?

Im sure they will soon stop making them except for servers, NAS's & very high capacity drives.
They go the way of IDE's :-)

Personally been using either ADATA Premium's or Western digital blues, the ADATA are slightly cheaper. Both have almost identical performance and NEVER had a problem with either. Only difference is ADATA have a 3 year warranty where as WD have 5 Year.

Stay away from the Greens, they are actually slightly slower. But yeah defiantly SSD.

Been using them in customers Computers now for quite a while. Mainly 512Gb, some 256GB, and the Occasional 1TB WD.

Don't know why I'm keeping the Boxes, maybe because the rubbish tin is full LOL
