After endless hassles with my canon (and the replacement which lasted a week) I have bought this:

$20 ink bottle, 4500 pages black, 7500 colour....
We'll see how long I actually get.

Wasn't cheap but so far so good.

Epson isn't well supported with Linux so I am stuck with manual duplex but I can live with that.

And before the laser people jump in I checked all them too.....It needed to be not much more than $300, less was better....have cheap toner/ink and do a LOT of pages.

Brother was close, but no-one had stock.

Me too during lockdown v1 but I hate printers at the best of time, and their cheap, rattly plastic box feel so gave up.

Think I need a PA.

@piroska My next color printer will be an Epson inktank printer . Looking at the ET3700 because it has a underneath paper feed rather than a rear gravity feed. Does yours have a rear feed or bottom feed?? I found that rear feeder printers after a while start to feed multiple sheets thru at the same time.
I think that these inktank printers are way more economical to run than a laser.

Paulw: It has rear feed, upright. Not my ideal but of the ecotanks this one was A)Within budget - just and B)Available.

I think what causes jams is duplexing......This printer should duplex...but with Linux, it allows me manual only.


I had loads of jams with the bottom feed Canon, and in the end the rollers got trashed....so I ditched that one and bought another of same model.
That was a saga....got B504 issues, they replaced it, new one got B7100 (Jam but there wasn't) and while messing with that power died on it, so I got pissed off and sent it back.

Consumer grade printers are junk these days, that's the problem.

Something like an old Laserjet IIIP, now those were built like tanks and last forever.

Hmmmm, well I’ve been using Canon Inkjet low grade printers for years, never paid more than $39 for any of them.

Sure, I fill the cartridges myself, when needed, and when the cartridge is worn out I replace it with one from the new printer, and send the new printer off to landfill.

Works for me.

I still have a Laserjet IIIP it works well but has a strange fault I've never been able to track down so extra steps are required to make it print, works better on Linux than Windows as well.

Beautifully made and assembled, built to last. Solid as.

And chances of the printers using the same cartridges are not always high....
